Muxton School is very fortunate to have a large, active and dedicated group of parents known as ‘The Friends of Muxton School’. Parents, Grandparents and school staff are welcome to join this group which has the primary purpose of raising valuable additional funds for the school. During the course of the year, ‘The Friends’ provide a range of fun, social activities for pupils and the wider community. Recent fund-raising events have included cake stalls held after school, a Grand Spring Raffle, family ‘bingo’ night, discos for pupils and a family photo shoot. Our Christmas and Summer fairs are very well supported and enable many people to get involved.
Through the participation and support of families at these events, ‘The Friends’ raised over £6,500 in 2009 and are hoping to match this record this year. The school has been able to purchase many additional items to support pupils’ learning, such as over £2000 spent on new books to restock the library, new large whiteboards for every classroom, art canvases and equipment used for a special art project, IT equipment and cookery equipment. All pupils recently benefited from a visit to school by a science roadshow which supported the work each key stage had been covering in class. The ‘friends’ also paid for this.
If you feel you can spare some time, either regularly at meetings to discuss future plans or maybe a couple of hours to help support one of the many fundraising activities, or if you have skills, ideas or local business contacts that you think could help, then ‘The Friends’ would gladly welcome your involvement. More information is available from the school.
